‘Hope You Can Go, love Euan’ is a series of memories and anecdotes from my friendship with Euan Uglow.

Euan Uglow was my personal tutor when I was a postgraduate student at the Slade from 1992-1994. I knew him from 1990 until his death in August 2000, last seeing him on the lawn outside the Slade in May 2000. We talked about drawing a head rationally or emotionally.

A couple of days later he sent a private view card for Geoffrey Smedley’s show of work stemming from his study of Pero Della Francesca’s drawing of a head. On it was it written ‘ Hope you can , love Euan’, a discreet sign he was too ill to go.
